Jug Handle Beach is the home of a variety of shore and water birds including killdeer, sandpipers, and gulls. Belted Kingfishers nest in holes in the steep banks both here and farther up the canyon - listen for their ratchet-like call. Jug Handle Creek is a steep, short watershed draining a thickly forested canyon that is an exellent wildlife habitat.
