When the tide is coming in, the creek here appears to be flowing uphill. Because of the influx of seawater, the plants - sea rocket, sand verbena, sedges, and rushes - must be tolerant of salt. A little farther from the creek, willows and red alders tower over thimbleberry, blackberry, flowering currant, buttercups, bracken fern, and stinging nettles.
